Lesson Plans That Work

Designed to follow the Revised Common Lectionary, these lesson plans are written by experienced church school teachers using practical approaches to respond to the needs of volunteer teachers. Both a lesson plan for young children and a lesson plan for older children are offered each week, and intergenerational lesson plans are available for many major feast days throughout the liturgical year. These lesson plans can be used as written, or they are easy to adapt to reflect the context of your congregation's children's program. For more information, please contact Ruth-Ann Collins, officer for Adult Formation/Lifelong Learning.

Third Sunday after Pentecost: Proper 6: June 17, 2012

Juin 17, 2012 (Toute la journée)

Jesus has begun his ministry; fresh with the capacity to notice abundance wherever he looks. But how to describe the richness of the Kingdom of God so people can grasp it? Seeds. Maybe that is it – everyone has seen seeds.

First Sunday after Pentecost: Trinity Sunday: June 3, 2012

Juin 3, 2012 (Toute la journée)

Learned leaders of the church struggle to communicate the concept of the "Trinity," our God who is three-in-one. A learned leader named Nicodemus went to Jesus in the night to struggle with the concept of "born again." We stretch for a deeper understanding of God's longing for us and with our call to respond, as John 3:16b says that eternal life is for those who believe in God.

Day of Pentecost: May 27, 2012

Mai 27, 2012 (Toute la journée)

The church is born at Pentecost. The promised Advocate comes and those who cowered in fear now burst forth from their prisons with a message that can be understood in any language. The message: God is for everyone and anyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. We are still unpacking this message today as we peek out from the prisons we find ourselves hiding within.

Easter 7: May 20, 2012

Mai 20, 2012 (Toute la journée)

Jesus reports to the Father. Jesus has done the work given him to do. A little band of believers is trained to do the work Jesus has given them to do. Jesus lifts these people up to God. As he does so, we, and our ministries are also lifted up. We are not immune to pain, suffering, or even defeat. But God offers protection from the evil one, in all we do. And, in all we do, Jesus asks, “that they may have my joy made complete in themselves.”
